SARASOTA,Florida– There are still unanswered questions surrounding a fatal road rage incident that occurred on May 13. The incident took place at the intersection of Fruitville and Cattlemen roads.

Authorities were alerted to the shooting at approximately 8:08 p.m., and upon arrival, they discovered a man who had been shot inside a pickup truck. Additionally, a sedan nearby contained a female driver and a male passenger.

According to an official press release, the passenger reported that following a verbal altercation, the driver of the pickup truck brandished a gun at him and the sedan’s driver.

According to the passenger’s account, he exited the vehicle and proceeded to shoot multiple rounds into the driver’s side of the pickup truck, ultimately injuring the driver.

It is important to note that the passenger possessed a valid concealed carry permit and was carrying a firearm at the time of the incident.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office has made available several 911 calls related to the incident, which provide additional details. Eyewitnesses, who chose to remain anonymous, provided descriptions of the frightening events that transpired.

Multiple 911 callers provided chilling accounts of the chaos and violence that unfolded during the road rage incident. Witnesses reported hearing gunshots and seeing a person with a firearm.


Some of the Callers Concerns were:

“I’m sick to my stomach,” said a caller.,

A caller said, “About five shots were fired.”

A third caller said, “There were two cars in front of us, the car that was the furthest in front, to the left, started shooting at the car on the right.”

A fourth 911 caller said, “Someone got out of the car behind us and shot someone in another car.”

“We need somebody to come get this car because he is about to hit somebody,” a caller said

One of those callers described the chaos, “We just heard pop pop pop pop!”

Another caller said, “I saw the gun in the hand.”


Terrified drivers recounted shots being fired and a pickup truck moving along Fruitville Road.

One caller described witnessing a car shooting at another vehicle, while another mentioned seeing a lifeless individual in the front seat of the pickup truck.

The deceased individual, a 58-year-old Sarasota man, was found with a gunshot wound to the head. The identity of the driver was not disclosed in deputy reports due to privacy laws.

The incident left those in the area deeply frightened for their safety, with some requesting immediate assistance to prevent any further harm or accidents.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office cited privacy laws as the reason for not disclosing the names of the individuals who fired the deadly shots or their passenger. It was confirmed that all three individuals involved in the incident were from Sarasota.

 

The eyewitnesses who witnessed the shooting and the subsequent loss of life on the evening before Mother’s Day expressed the lasting impact of the traumatic event, as the memory of witnessing someone being shot and killed remains etched in their minds.
