NELSON COUNTY, Kentucky–A man, accused of continuous child abuse involving his nine children, four of whom are underage, is now confronting multiple charges.

According to the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office, an investigation was conducted, and 55-year-old James Lino Saldana, a resident of New Haven, was taken into custody on April 21.

During the inquiry, officials allege that one of Saldana’s grown-up children had suffered irreversible and incapacitating injuries after he purportedly assaulted her when she was a minor.

As a result, Saldana has been indicted with four counts of first-degree criminal abuse for a child under the age of 12, a Class B felony, and first-degree assault (domestic violence), also a Class B felony. There are more charges expected in the future.

The grand jury indictment against Saldana provides details of incidents that happened between September 2017 and January 2023. According to the indictment, in September 2021, Saldana purportedly banged one of his children’s heads against a table and did not provide assistance, which led to the assault charge.

During the investigation, the Department of Community Based Services placed the four minors in foster care.
